Monday April 30

Whoa, I thought I put a post up. Man, things inside my head are really starting to blend...

Which begs the question... "Will it blend?"

Right, today we started by taking up the homework from page 307, then went right on to a ppt on the Cycle of Infection. I will try and get the ppt up today, but it should go here:

Then, we went on to assign questions on the reading from the text from page 472.

After break, we spoke about the First Aid Booklet and the Service presentations that we need to get done. Along with that, I pointed out that the Culminating Activity blogs need to be updated.

Thursday April 26 Day 19

OK, today was the official end of Unit Three, and we had to get the unit test done.

And the Journal is due - so get it done, man. List will be up on the right.

After that, we took up some of the questions for the Film Study of Crapshoot and read from the textbook ... and we got page 307 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6 assigned.

Oh, man.

By the way, tomorrow -Friday - is a PD Day. I'm off for some of this:
See you Monday!

Wednesday April 25

In a final bid to try and get people in the class to know stuff about Stewardship, we watched the film Crapshoot.

Questions, as usual, are do the day after the film is done.

Ahh... on to Thursday.

Tues April 24

OK, welcome back ... to the people who had an extra long weekend.

We started to day with taking up the homework - page 174, 1, 2, 3 and 4. That was very humbling. After that, we read a little from the text from 188 and 198. We got page 193 1, 2, 4 and 5 for the first bit of work on the Journal. The second reading had questions on page 201 - numbers 1, 2, 4 and 5 again. Stuff just got real, B.

After a bit of time we got the handout for the Unit Three, Task Two "Case Study", which is due on the 25th. It is a simple set of questions base around three case studies we are going to watch today.

Last thing, we need to continue to work on our Culminating Activity- your Fitness Network!

And here is an article I really like - I may even make it an assignment for both of my classes.

Monday, April 23, 2012

ok, Monday...

Today we'll take up the questions from the film and the homework. We need to do some reading from the text and then ... we take a look at the Culminating Activity And I need to show you your marks. Should be a good one.

Day 15

OK, there was a major issue with the Unit Three outline. I have a "redo" today for that. Man, I'm really thinking that sleep I'm getting just isn't enough. In any case, after that we'll have to do a bit of text book work, doing the questions on 170: 1,2,3,5,6 - all about stress management. We'll take a bit of a poll for what Film Study we want to do today - we have to do two more, and it is just a matter of which one we want to do today. Oh yeah, there are now just over 20 days before this course ends. You need to stat your Culminating Activity! Lastly, I have to get the due dates up for this unit, too

Thursday, day 14

Right today we're going to do some catching up.

Catchup.

We have to do some reading about mental health and I will get the due dates up for Unit Three: Mental Health and Stewardship.

After we get some reading done, we took some time to work on the Culminating Activity blogs during class time. Check the links on the right side of the blog to help you. There is also a check list of things you need to have on your blog in order to get a good mark in this class.

As a part of taking up the questions for AIT and WotSS, we mentioned this video:

Note to my students: do not leave your Facebook open if you leave the class. If you do, get really good at foreign languages, especially Facebook Pirate.

Oh, and finally, i recalled the name of the book that I mentioned in class. I mentioned The Purpose Driven Life.

Wed Wrap up

I was at a big facny meetin'. We used them big words.

Ya'll watched AIT and an episode of Wonders of the Solar System.

I hope you liked them.

There is homework involved

Day 12

Today is the end of unit two, so we need to get the Journal in for that unit, and have ourselves a quiz.

Here is a sad face:

We will get some time to work on the material after the quiz, and to make sure we all look good.

Nutrition poster is also due soon, as well.

We started to work on setting up the blog today - some crazy uses of the gadgets on the right from some in my class. ...and we're going to have to work on our spelling...

Day 11 ... ish

I think this is day 11. I will check on that.

Today, we're going to start with checking to see if there is any outstanding homework we have to take up in class.

We then need to read from page 93 in the textbook. I've also going to have the notes from the Skye interview typed up and you'll have something to write on that, too.

The nutrition poster is due soon, too. We need to work on that in class, too.

By the end of the class, I will show you your mark so far and perhaps even start Unit Three.

Day 11

OK, today's class was more than just a little cool. We had Chris Reed of Empire Fitness Skyping with the class. We got a chance to hear what he had to say about Nutrition, Motivation and getting support for your health.

I kinda liked the idea that's in the pic above. If you were there, you'll understand. If you need some help, I'd recommend you hook up with Chris, man.

Right Here is another shot of the set up:

Excuse the mess, it's been a long few weeks this morning.

Right, my class doesn't know this yet, but they'll be working on an assignment for the conversation on Monday. Which is when our next class is.

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Day 10

Right on. a third of the way through the course.

Today, we'll be working on questions to ask during our Skype session tomorrow. It's going to be ... Epic.

We also have to finish the film"Forks over Knives". Extra copies of the questions are at the front of the room.

Then, we'll take some time to get the questions done together, if need be.

Next, we need to read some from the textbook. Questions will be in there, too.

Then, we are done.

Day Nine

I think last post i said we're going to see Food Inc. I'm sorry, but I think the film Forks over Knives will serve our purpose better. Rather than scaring you about what goes into your food, I'd rather educate you about what you should put in your mouths.

Ok, We're going to start with taking up the homework from Friday, including the questions for SSM. After that, we'll do some reading from the text and get some questions.

Secondly, we'll do a short in class assignment of the Vitamins and Minerals. It's called "Research This". Trust me, it's important, so I make it part of the Journal.

Then, onto Forks over Knives. It's a good one, too.

I also have to test out the Skype interview with Chris Reed we've set up for Thursday. We also have to work on thinking on paper for some things we'd like to get Chris to talk about.

... oh, and one more thing:

This is a three day week.

Day Eight

Right today, we finished Super Size me. I'm ashamed to admit that at least three of my students at a Big Mac after watching the film.

I'm pretty sure the next film, Food Inc, will get them to think about what they stick in their mouths. And I'm going to be giving them their final activity for the course on Tuesday (it's a super long weekend this weekend, thanks to Easter) ... which I'm hoping will lead them to the knowledge of better nutrition.

OK, well, questions were assigned, too. Have a great weekend!

Day 7 Tues April 4

OK, this is going up while my students are watching me post this. Well, some are interested in learning how to get past the Facebook blocking and get to their "really important" messages.

Yeah I know, "First world problems"

In any case, we're taking some time at the start of class to get the presentations ready to go. We'll start them in about 10 minutes.

After that, I'm going to peek over some shoulders and see how the Task # Family Health History packages are coming along. More than likely, they are done and ready to come in. S'all good.

Then we're going to start Unit Two - reading pages 59-75 in the text. I gotta stack of questions ready to go at the front of the room, too.

The, Super Size Me. What a guy that Morgan is, eh?

And we watched this, too:

Day Five

Ok, so, we're going to take it as easy as we can today - it's a short week, after all.

We're going to do these questions first:

1. If you are only working on 50 bicep curls a day ... what area of health related fitness are you benefitting? What else could you do to benefit other areas of your health?

2. If you were to start using a treadmill for fitness, what area of health related fitness are you benefitting? What else could you do to benefit other areas of your health?

Then, we're going to be working with the text book, finishing chapter two and starting chapter three.

then, we'll see about taking a look at your culminating activity for this course.

Here's a hint for what you should be doing:
